Introduction

War and any form of armed conflict have always led to severe violations of human rights throughout history. It was only after the horrifying atrocities of WW2 that the idea of human rights was put into place through the birth of the United Nations and the UN Charter in 1945.

The most common types of human rights violations that take place during war are extrajudicial executions, torture (including rape), hostages, arbitrary arrest; restrictions on freedom of speech and expression, and mass murder/genocide.

The world has seen many horrendous wars; WW1 and WW2 caused almost 115 million casualties altogether and 5% of the entire population vanished within the time period of a few years. These wars gave way and set a trend for many wars in the future like the Maratha wars, the Napoleonic wars and many others. Unfortunately, even in today’s modern world, war is an ongoing scheme and the most recent horrifying war is the one going in Kashmir, that has been the heartache of the Kashmiris for nearly 72 years now.
